Jack McCarthy: Availability

Question: Is Jack available to come perform at my school, university, library, or coffee shop?

Answer: Absolutely! Jack has committed the ultimate crime against good sense and given up his day-job. He is available to travel anywhere, any time—for anyone who has an interesting gig to offer and can provide travel expenses¹ and accommodations.

His definition of an “interesting gig” is entirely subjective and open to negotiation. Make an offer. He won’t laugh at you.

Workshops

Jack’s workshops are different from many others. Jack feels that since he’s the one being paid, he should be the one doing the work. He doesn’t arrive with a series of prefabricated writing exercises and kick back while you write. Jack’s forte is the three-minute poem, and a workshop is not the appropriate setting for writing a three-minute poem. Jack’s objective is to send you out inspired to write all night.

His workshops are what he calls “organic,” or “Pick Jack McCarthy’s Brain.” Any time the discussion flags, somebody does another poem and the process starts all over.

Although unorthodox, Jack McCarthy’s workshops have been very enthusiastically received.
